Welcome

The Traditional Cornmillers Guild was established in 1987. Members are all wind or water millers using primarily natural power to produce stoneground meals and flours. One of the main aims of the Guild is to increase public awareness of the important role it has to play in maintaining traditional milling standards and developing products to meet the needs of customers for high quality cereals and flours.

The majority of traditional mills are small, often family run, businesses. They provide a personal service, often milling to your special needs. It is good to know that in an increasingly ecologically aware society, the Traditional Cornmill, powered by wind or water, is environmentally friendly. Its power source is clean, cheap and renewable Many mills are in beautiful historic buildings which have been carefully restored and maintained, and most welcome visitors. However, it is to everyone's advantage if you can telephone first before visiting.

Closer links between millers and bakers have led to a growth of specialist bakeries, tea and coffee shops, and restaurants throughout the country. The Guild has produced an excellent Book of Recipes using Traditional Stoneground Flours produced by the Wind and Water Mills. It is available directly from the mills or by post.

FOLIC ACID CAMPAIGN

Historic, working, wind and watermills across the UK are concerned about the proposed legislation on the mandatory addition of folic acid to flours (other than wholemeal and non wheaten flours) warn The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and The Traditional Cornmillers Guild (TCMG).  We are continuing discussions with the FSA on this issue.
